An interesting article on one of the best preserved medieval streets in England.
Note for my Ricardian friends. As the Shambles was originally where the butchers had their shops and also where the animals were slaughtered too with gullies either side down which the blood would flow I doubt very much that Richard would have ever ambled down that way. But I wonder whether he would have found the stench of the Shambles less noxious than the malodorousness of treachery and deceit given off by the backstabbing traitors, many whom attended his Coronation and had made their oaths of allegiance to him. I need not name them here ..we know who they are.. and their names will stinketh forever.
