Lawyer Bertram Fields, who practiced law under the shortened form of his name, Bert, recently passed away at the age of 93 from complications of a Covid-19 infection.
Ricardians will remember him as the author of the excellent ROYAL BLOOD, in which, with a lawyer’s skill, he dissected much of the traditionalist viewpoints, even taking on modern historians as well. He especially eviscerated Alison Weir, particularly for her lack of notes in her book on the Princes, and promoting personal views as historical fact.
What I did not realise was that Bert was not ‘just’ a lawyer, he was in fact a ‘Big Name’ lawyer in Hollywood, with clients such as Michael Jackson, The Beatles, Tom Cruise, Dustin Hoffman, and John Travolta.
He also published other non-fiction, including a book about Elizabeth I, and even several novels, some under a penname. He was also a musician and friend of Beatle George Harrison.
Fields’ book ROYAL BLOOD is still in print and available from the usual places, and is well worth the read if you haven’t read it already, as are the notes.

One of the first non anti-Ricardian books I managed to find! All good info Hoodedman, especially about Alison Weir, an all too familiar issue with many of the writers (‘scholars, historians, academics’) that I could name. Would never have connected him with George Harrison though!
