A great WordPress.com site

A different portrait of Anne Neville….

Here is a portrait of Anne Neville that isn’t seen very often. It’s not contemporary, of course, but shows her looking fresh and healthy, with no sign at all of the wilting Anne who is so often referred to. It also shows her with a fringe, which I’m certain she would not have. She lived in an age when women shaved their foreheads high, so a little fringe would be an abomination to her!

I found the illustration at this website which is an excellent place for endless information. I certainly recommend you to visit it.

  1. This looks like it’s copied from the Beauchamp Pageant drawing of Anne (the one showing her between her husbands). There’s some line under her crown in that, but I agree, it’s not at all likely to be a fringe.

There’s an image of it here:

I would love to see a contemporary portrait of Anne Neville (aside from the ones in the Rous Roll and the Beauchamp Pageant). I often think and hope that, sooner or later, something about her will come up. I’ve always been fascinated by the Nevilles clan and I am especially curious about what they might have looked like. Thanks for posting!
